Call for Papers at the 34th annual American Literature Association

The Mary McCarthy Society will sponsor a panel at the American Literature Association Annual Convention in Boston, MA, May 25-28, 2023.

Mary McCarthy: Woman of Letters.

In light of recent developments in the battle for gender equality with the #MeToo movement and the momentum of the Women’s Marches, this panel will look back at Mary McCarthy’s contribution as a pioneering woman of letters. All aspects of Mary McCarthy’s life and works will be considered. These might include Mary McCarthy as a fiction writer, public intellectual, satirist, feminist, political activist, conservationist, style icon, collaborator, and friend. Comparative readings of McCarthy in relation to other writers and literary and cultural movements are welcome.
